Any other female with a bit of money to spare would go out and buy some clothes - I went and bought a garden shredder and have had a wonderful time with it. It reduces what were car loads of hedge and tree cuttings to tiny bags of compost. It is absolutely great. It is true to its word and silent, it takes branches up to an inch and a half (but better to er on the safe side and only go to about an inch) and if it gets clogged you can put it into reverse to un clog it. It also has lots of safety features which stop you from shredding your fingers. The down side? The collecting bag is quite small, it is near to the ground and thus if you want to be sure the tube that expels the shreds does not clog, you have to continually empty the bag. But that is a small problem given the excellent results. Do not be tempted to buy an inferior, less expensive machine - you will simply not goet good results.
